Frequently Asked Questions

Netflix subtitles or translations in language X are missing for the movie Y

Different languages for each movie are available in different countries. Unfortunately, our catalogue data is not 100% accurate at the moment. You can check if your languages are available by checking if they are listed in the Netflix subtitle selector. If not, you can try using machine translations (a Pro feature). Or try a different movie. In rare cases, you can enable additional (human subtitle) languages by connecting from another country, e.g. via a VPN service (ExpressVPN or similar).

Extension button is not showing on Netflix or YouTube, or both

If the extension button is missing on both websites:

  • Please make sure you have the correct, new extension installed: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/language-reactor/hoombieeljmmljlkjmnheibnpciblicm
  • Please make sure you don't have a domain blocker (e.g. if on a corporate network). You can test by clicking on this link. If it opens, i.e. shows lots of funny characters (this is the code for the extension), you probably don't have a blocker.
  • Please make sure all necessary permissions are granted:
    • Open Chrome menu > More tools > Extensions > Language Reactor > Details
    • Scroll down to 'Permissions' and make sure all switches are on.
  • If nothing helps, please write to us.

If the extension button is missing on one of the websites only: if permissions are enabled (see above), this shouldn't happen. Please report a bug here.

How do I hide the Language Reactor button from YouTube only / Netflix only?

You can switch off Language Reactor completely by clicking on the LR button in the playback bar - everything on YouTube / Netflix should work exactly as if the extension is not installed. However, if you want to remove the button completely, you can do that by disabling YouTube (or Netflix) permission in: Chrome menu > More tools > Extensions > Language Reactor > Details > Permissions. Please make sure that other permissions are on - especially languagereactor.com website, since they are required for the extension to work properly.

Will I be charged after the free trial?

No, you will just get back to free mode automatically.

What does the Pro subscription include?

Pro mode primarily includes 2 additional features: machine translations and saving words and phrases. A single Pro subscription can be used on Netflix, Youtube and LanguageReactor.com website (TurtleTV, flashcards, text mode).

Some quotas apply for machine translations: you can watch about 5 hours of (new, previously untranslated) content every day. This quota also applies to exporting subtitles - machine translations will only be included within the quota.

What happens if I cancel my Pro subscription?

After your subscription month expires, you won't be able to use machine translations and save new words and phrases anymore, but you can still view and export your previously saved words and phrases indefinitely.
